You just have to be impressed with Chris Seaver and the crew at Low Budget Pictures. It seems like they release DVDs faster than we here at Film Fanaddict can review them. Faster than IMDB.com can keep up with too apparently; the exhaustively comprehensive site is now two years and about four or five films behind. They’ve taken a page out of Troma’s handbook and focused on keeping their loyal fans constantly satisfied with new product rather than trying to branch outside of their niche. Their latest effort is TEENAPE GOES TO CAMP, a film that reunites many of their most popular characters.

Teenape is up to his usual shenanigans when he gets a phone call from Heather asking him to help lead a weekend retreat to train new camp counselors. Sounds like a sucky time to Teenape, but Heather is able to convince him to come for the underage ladies that he’ll be able to score with. The group that shows up are not what he was hoping for, however: two nerdy LARPers, a stoner demon, a Mexican samurai, and various other losers. Worst of all, Teenape’s nemesis and Hollywood star Choach is there to get ideas for his new reality series. Teenape has some fun with nympho Honey and starts to think that camp might not be all that bad, but Heather wakes him up the next morning with a gun in his face. She tells him that the “counselor training” was all a lie and that everyone there had paid to hunt and kill Teenape. He uses his head start to make his way into the forest and the would-be killers find that there’s more to Teenape than a ravenous libido.

TEENAPE GOES TO CAMP is more sleazy, campy fun from Low Budget Pictures. Pop culture references abound, and LBP’s frequent output allows them to hit these references while they are still fresh. This film is one of their funniest recent outings since the plot moves fairly quickly and Teenape is always good for a laugh. One of my only issues with the film is that it is definitely aimed at those who are already fans of these characters, and new viewers may find the familiarity with which everything is treated to be a bit exclusory. A good feature to have had on the DVD (which is one of Tempe’s better discs this year) would be an introduction to “LBP world” that they’ve created. That being said, TEENAPE GOES TO CAMP is an excellent place to start your journey into that world. It’s a funny, filthy time that you’re sure to enjoy.
