Israeli born Geller was a frequent guest on American talk shows, often displaying his ability to bend spoons with his mind. He famously failed at his “trick” on an early seventies episode of the Tonight Show and most people maintain that Geller’s abilities are simple stage magic rather than legitimate “PK.” Geller may be just a showman, but PK has been taken seriously by all sorts of legitimate scientists and governments. The Soviet Union did a lengthy study of PK and other psychic techniques during the Cold War and the US did its share of dabbling in pseudo-science as well, as seen in the recent based-in-truth George Clooney film THE MEN WHO STARE AT GOATS. I’m giving you all of this useless trivia in an effort to prove that the plot of the pinku film DEEP CONTACT isn’t as far-fetched as it might seem. Typically the pinku genre goes out of its way to be as bizarre and nonsensical as possible, but they’ve come surprisingly close to the truth with this plot, perhaps entirely by accident. DEEP CONTACT is the latest release from Pink Eiga in their line of “Uncut and Unrated” pink film DVDs. Wataru owes the yakuza a lot of money, so when he’s knocked out and kidnapped he’s not completely surprised. He is a little shocked, though, when he awakes in a hospital rather than a gangland hideout. Wataru has been selected by the United Nations for a very special mission. He has been identified as having “sexual psychokinesis,” or simply put, he can move things with his mind, but only when he’s having sex. The UN has gathered Wataru and other sexual-psychokinetics together in an effort to deflect a comet on a collision course with Earth.Surprisingly, Wataru is reluctant to get paid by the government to have sex and demands to be set free. The director, Dr. Ohora, won’t let him leave until the project is over and the extra time in the hospital makes Wataru begin to change his mind. He becomes smitten with one of the other participants, the powerful sexual-psychokinetic Ikuko (wordplay on Japanese for “I’m coming”) and decides that spending more time with her is worth losing his freedom. His love for her still isn’t enough to make him want to participate, and Ikuko tries to convince him to do the right thing. A lot of DEEP CONTACT is taken up by exchanges between Ikuko and Wataru of the non-sexual variety, so don’t think that the film is all nudity and sex. It is still mostly nudity and sex though, and at only an hour, there isn’t time for the plot to be much more involved than the rough outline above. The film has a few humorous non-sexual moments, but I’d be dishonest if I told you that (softcore) sex was not the singular point of DEEP CONTACT. Pink Eiga has come a long way in terms of the quality of their releases. DEEP CONTACT is the latest in a line of successive releases that each seemed to have more bonus features than the one previous to it. Here we get all of the items mentioned in the outline above and several sneak peeks at upcoming Pink Eiga titles. Also like the rest of their titles, DEEP CONTACT is a sex film, so those of you looking for character arcs, plot twists, and narrative development need not apply. The rest of you can feel free to check it out however.
