Film Fanaddict News : Kino Lorber Releases Alain Robbe-Grillet's The Man Who Lies and Eden & After on Blu-ray
Posted by David Carter on 2014/5/11 17:51:28 (960 reads)

Open in new windowKino Lorber is proud to announce the Blu-ray releases of three more films from acclaimed French novelist, filmmaker, and Academy Award®-nominated screenwriter Alain Robbe-Grillet: The Man Who Lies, starring Jean-Louis Trintignant (Z, Amour), who won the Silver Bear for Best Actor for his performance, and Eden & After, along with the complete alternate version of the film, N. Took the Dice.

These three films join Kino Lorber's previous releases of Trans-Europ-Express, Successive Slidings of Pleasure, and L'Immortelle in The Cinema of Alain Robbe-Grillet, a collection of six films from this influential writer-director whose work weaves his personal themes of sadomasochism within an intricate web of experimental storytelling. Robbe-Grillet's unique and distinctive narrative approach earned him an Academy Award® nomination for Best Screenplay for Alain Resnais' Last Year at Marienbad in 1962, and these releases from Kino Lorber display his mastery of both writing and directing.

Both Blu-rays will be released on May 27th, individually priced at $34.95 each, mastered in HD from original 35mm elements and featuring an interview with Robbe-Grillet as well as trailers for his other films.

THE MAN WHO LIES (L'homme qui ment)
Blu-ray Street Date: May 27, 2014

On the run from pursuing soldiers, Boris (Jean-Louis Trintignant) finds a refuge in a small European town which, years before, was home to Jean, a resistance fighter hunted by the Nazis. Boris ingratiates himself in the community, weaving elaborate tales of his encounters with the martyred rebel, and thereby seducing Jean's widow...and sister...and maid. But Boris' erotic games are interrupted when a mysterious stranger -- who may, in fact, be Jean -- arrives in the village.

EDEN AND AFTER
(includes the complete alternate version, N. TOOK THE DICE)
Blu-ray Street Date: May 27, 2014

From the darkly erotic imagination of Alain Robbe-Grillet (Trans-Europ-Express) comes EDEN AND AFTER, a dreamlike fable in which a group of decadent French students are drawn into the psychological and sexual games of a mysterious Dutchman (Pierre Zimmer). Once they imbibe his "fear powder", the students experience a series of hallucinatory episodes: ruminations on death, explorations of sexual curiosity, and striking tableaux of sado-masochistic fantasy. This special edition includes an interview with writer/director Robbe-Grillet, and a complete alternate cut of the film, entitled N. TOOK THE DICE.
