1976. D, P-Arthur Marks. S/P-Charles Johnson. 90 min. Yaphet Kotto plays a small time hustler named Fox, who enlists the help of the local kids to take care of the "supply and demand" in town. He trains them in the ways of the "Monkey Hustle". Rudy Ray Moore is Goldie, the town's big time hustler, who runs numbers and tells his boys to make sure and steal big. The somewhat confusing plot revolves around the town trying to stop the construction of a expressway through the middle of their neighborhood and getting as many hustles on as possible. Throw in a couple of romantic subplots (one with Rosalind Cash), lots of funky talk and some fights and you've got an entertaining film. Ironically, Moore was now getting top billing for his small role in this film from American International pictures, who previously turned down distributing DOLEMITE. Film director and comedian, Robert Townsend, made his first appearance on film in a small role and would later cast Moore in his own films, B.A.P.S. and JACKIE'S BACK.
